The Model System Knowledge Translation Center (MSKTC) has released an updated factsheet on Depression and Spinal Cord Injury. Depression is a common issue, affecting 12% to 40% of individuals within a year of their injury, and 15% to 30% of the SCI community overall.
Symptoms of depression range from feelings of hopelessness and apathy to significant changes in sleeping and eating patterns, often severe enough to impact functioning at work, school, or home. The factsheet includes a self-screening test for individuals to monitor their symptoms and provides information on how to find help.
