The Runway of Dreams Foundation was founded by Mindy Scheier – a fashion designer and mother of a child with a disability.
Her journey began when her son Oliver, who has a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy, wanted to wear jeans to school like his friends.
She envisioned a marketplace where adaptive clothing for people with disabilities would be easy to access.
Founded on the belief that clothing is a basic human need, the Runway of Dreams Foundation works with clothing manufacturers to make adaptive clothing readily available and to promote differently-abled people in the fashion industry. On September 5, 2019, the Runway of Dreams fashion show will kick off New York Fashion week.
In this video, we hear from Scheier and watch as models with disabilities prepare for fashion photographs that show off their adaptive clothing, and themselves.
