Video: Returning to Extreme Outdoor Sports After SCI

May 4, 2026

Adapted is a new documentary that follows three outdoor athletes as they work to reclaim the ambitious outdoor challenges that once defined their lives after traumatic spinal cord injuries (SCI).

The film centers on Anna, Josh, and Danielle as each takes on a high-stakes challenge: Anna works toward summiting Mt. Baker in Washington State, Josh leads an adaptive rafting expedition down Idaho’s Salmon River, and Danielle attempts an 87‑mile hand‑cycle ride across Utah’s White Rim Trail in Canyonlands National Park.

Director Paul Bikis reflects on what drew him to the story: “I was inspired by Josh, Anna, and Danielle and the ways they adapted to keep pursuing big outdoor adventures. I also realized how much I had gotten wrong about spinal cord injuries, and I felt this was a story the world needed to hear.”

The film has already earned early recognition on the festival circuit, including an Audience Award at the Durango Film Festival, and continues to screen at festivals and select theaters as part of its 2026 film tour.
