What is a peer counselor? - Julie Gassaway, MS, RN

A peer counselor is somebody like you. They have also got a spinal cord injury perhaps similar to yours and they are living with their injury every day. They have a lot you could learn from. Who better to talk to you than somebody who’s already been through it, and is also injured probably in somewhat of a similar way that you were or at least have a similar result that you do, and they know what they are talking about from personal experience. And it really does compliment what your clinicians can tell you from a medical perspective.
