Children who are too large or older often don't fit appropriately in a regular car seat, and need a booster seat. That booster seat is important for young children in order to be able to get them situated where the three point restraints, so both the lap belt and the shoulder harness, sits on them appropriately, so that when they are in a motor vehicle crash, that seat belt can insure their safety.
