Well surely they want to know if they're going to live, and get through this. And, when they discover that they have a loss with paralysis, in particular with spinal cord injury, immediately they're wanting to know, "am I going to feel again?—am I going to be able to move again?" And so, really that full sense of loss and, "is this permanent," is probably the most immediate piece on their mind. I've heard often that the person who has the injury really does not want to have a sense of being a burden to anyone. And that overriding concern on, "how does is affect me?" but, "oh my goodness, how is this going to affect my family?" Sometimes people forget that they're also thinking about that, too.
