I think for parents after their child sustains a spinal cord injury, they often struggle with a loss of what could have been for the future. Parents often talk to us about: “Will my child grow up and have relationships?âWill they be married?â Will they have children?â Will I ever see grandchildren?” And, I think that, initially for parents, is the fear of the future that is completely unknown and that may be different. The important piece is that parents find out quickly that their child is the same person after a spinal cord injury, and that all the hopes and dreams they had for that child should be the same, even though they happen to have a spinal cord injury, which changes their mobility.
