Don’t be afraid to get out there and find a recreational therapist, find an adaptive sports program. It may not be the ideal activity—or outdoor activity—you want to do, but if you call that recreational therapist after you’ve left the hospital, they’re going to know someone, or they’re going to know something because we’ve all worked with so many patients getting them involved with the community. They will find the activity that you and/or your family member want to do and the resources you need. So, don’t be afraid to reach out. The American Therapeutic Recreation Association has a website and I would go there. Or contact the rehabilitation hospital that you were at, and have them connect you, even with some peers who have also gone through an injury.
