Surgical repair of a pressure ulcer is required when there is extensive injury. And, in many times, when there’s gross infection, and the infection has penetrated the bone, and this wound is not going to heal using the basic wound-care modalities. In this case, a surgeon transplants a part of healthy tissue from the patient from another area, muscle and skin, or one or the other, and literally transplants this area, becomes a graft over the area, and we call this a, “surgical flap procedure.”
