Cellulitis is not caused by pressure; it’s caused by entrance of bacteria that causes an infection. The classic presentation is redness around the wound, perhaps an upward streak. You have to be very wary of any type of redness moving in an upward direction toward the core of the body. There can be swelling; there’s usually profound tenderness if the patient has sensation. There would be swelling, and there would be increased drainage. In the case of cellulitis, it requires treatment immediately. Patients usually do quite well with antibiotics and elevation when they have cellulitis. It’s a good idea for a patient to seek medical treatment immediately, even by going to the emergency room if they suspect cellulitis.
