A physiatrist is a physician who specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation. So it’s a specialty of medicine, that focuses on individuals who either through injury, or medical condition, has sustained some type of change to their body that results in them not being able to function as well as they normally could. And so, a physiatrist works with a team of individuals—physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech language pathologists, social workers, psychologists—to help these individuals take what has had happened to them, and to hopefully return to their previous independent functioning level.
